Design Your Own Fine French Calf Leather
Fine French calf leather is a corrected grain leather which has a very smooth face. The white base colour is very receptive to bright colours and fine details. Corrected grain printed calf leather is 1.3 to 1.5 millimetres thick, making it perfect for slightly stiffer upright bags. When printed with your custom design, this French calf leather is a beautiful material smooth to the touch with a gentle shine.
The face of the French calf leather is extremely smooth and has a subtle shine to it. The reverse is textured, but soft to the touch. Anti-wrinkle and crease free, this fine calf leather has a corrected grain which makes it very flat and smooth.
Beautiful colours with precise clarity, printed calf leather produces extraordinary results. Colours are rich and lines are sharp, which gives you beautiful prints regardless of the level of detail.
The 1.3 to 1.5-millimetre thickness of the corrected-grain leather makes it perfect for use in upright bags, or any other item which may need to have a slight rigidity to it while maintaining a smooth, soft surface texture.
Frequently asked questions on Fine French Calf 1.3-1.5mm:
What is the difference between full grain and corrected grain leather?
Full grain leathers haven't been buffed, snuffed or sanded. These processes remove imperfections or natural marks that appear on the the surface of the leather. Corrected grain leather has had any blemishes or hallmarks on the grain of the leather 'corrected'. There are benefits to both full grain and corrected grain leathers. For example, corrected grain leathers don't require "breaking in" before extended wear.
Is the French calf leather of a high quality?
Absolutely. We source our printed calf leather from a prestigious French tannery. This famous French tannery makes some of the worlds top leathers and supplies some of the top leather brands. We ensure that we source only high-quality leathers across the board, and our fine French calf leather is no exception.
How big can I print my French calf leather?
As with all leathers, the size of the pieces we receive does vary depending on the size of the calf. We can offer our fine French calf leather in bespoke sizes up to 50 x 130 centimetres, custom printed with your designs.
You have the amazing designs, but do you have the amazing place to sell?
All you have to do is design what you love and we bring your creations to life. We take care of the hand crafting and manufacture, the sales and the shipping. You the designer, control the products and designs from wherever you are, from home, the office, even on the go. Meanwhile the orders start to roll in and you get commissions fast.
What's the best resolution to print in?
We print at 200dpi, which is a good combination of quality and file weight. Ideally your image should be scaled to 100% at 200dpi; this means that no resizing of your file occurs, preventing any interpolation.
Should I save my file as a TIFF or JPEG?
For multi-coloured or very detailed files we recommend using a tiff format, but they must be flattened. For simple colours and low detail files, a jpeg is fine.
Which colour model should I choose? RGB or CMYK?
We advise providing images in the RGB colour space. Specifically using the sRGB image profile, to achieve best colour results. What does this mean? In your editing software choose RGB as the working space, and assign the image profile as sRGB (full name sRGB IEC61966-2.1)
The maximum dimensions of the leather will depend on the type of leather. You will find more information on each leather product page. If you'd like to order more, you can increase the quantity, with a built in automatic volume discount too. The maximum print width of each leather can be found on the individual leather pages or in our design interface.
Do I need to incorporate white space within my design if I want a border or some cutting space?
Yes, that might help you! Always incorporate any extra space or boarders into your purchased fabric size. We trim squarely around fabric samples and fabric prints, leaving approximately 5mm white space. Cutting neatly on the line has an additional fee.
Do you print on leather a customer supplies?
Unfortunately not; we like to test meticulously so that we know what gets best results on our materials, and our facilities cater perfectly to them.
What is the situation with material shrinkage?
As we use the newest printing technology for printing on leather, there is no shrinkage with the the material during our processing at all.
Can I print on both sides of the leather?
Unfortunately, we do not offer printing on both sides of the leather.
Can I order swing tags in another leather? Will you cut them like you do with the normal leather swing tags?
At the moment no, our swing tags are all printed on the same nappa leather. We may introduce more in the future, but for now this is the best choice. The swing tags are all cut the same way. You can order the leather of your choice and make the swing tags yourself, but we do not cut different leather into swing tag format.
How Would you Like the Edge?
We have two finishing options for your fabric order:
- As it comes. We cut around your image, leaving a simply scissor cut, perhaps uneven white fabric border.
- Cut on the line. We will cut neatly on the edge of your image. Please be aware, when we cut along the line, we have to cut against the grain of the material. This is the standard procedure for fabric cutting.
All of our fabrics are cut manually by hand, with the utmost care and attention. If your fabric has a slightly uneven look on the edges, or a touch of fraying, this does not indicate a flaw in the textile. It is not always possible to achieve a perfect straight cut with certain fabrics, so please do bear this in mind when it comes to your design. If you have any queries or would like to know about our cutting methods in more detail, please get in touch and we will be more than happy to discuss them with you.
Not suitable for children’s toys or pet products, due to risk of ink being forcefully removed and ingested.
